Real Madrid Celebrate Winning 33rd La Liga Title-2017

The La Liga season 2016-17 came to an end after Real Madrid outdone Malaga CF on Sunday night and claimed their 33rd La Liga title 2017. The season was not smooth for the Los Blancos side. Their arch-rivals FC Barcelona were the challengers until the last whistle of the final game of the season. The Catalans have missed out the league title only twice between 2009 and 2016. But the strong campaign from Zinedine Zidane and his players got the better of Barcelona and won the league title after a 5-year drought.

FC Barcelona started the league season on a high note getting victories with massive scorelines. But fall off the top of the table due to inconsistency. Luis Enrique didn’t seem to get his pieces together. He lacked tactical ability this season. Moreover, a limited budget, lack of squad depth, and flop signings were the reason why Barcelona couldn’t perform to their very best. The last-minute goal from the Spaniard, Sergio Ramos, in the first el-Clasico of the season was crucial to deny Barcelona three points from the game and the La Liga at the end of the season.

The title race was on until the final day. The point difference between the first two was of three points. Barcelona had a higher goal difference which will hand over the title to the Catalans if Real Madrid lost to Malaga in the final game and Barcelona secured all the three points against SD Eibar. Two goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo made Real Madrid celebrate La Liga title after 5 years. The 3rd position is secured by Atletico Madrid, followed by Sevilla and Villareal.

Lionel Messi disappointed

Despite losing out to the league title, Lionel Messi scored the most number of goals in La Liga this season. He is on the top of the list of La Liga top scorers 2016-17 with 37 goals followed by Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo who have 29 and 25 goals on their name, respectively.
