Top 20 Richest Football Clubs in the World

The UK-based firm Deloitte has released a list of top 20 richest football clubs in the world as per the revenues they generated in the previous season. There is some surprise position swapping in the list. Real Madrid has dramatically fallen from the first position after staying on the top for 12 years. There are a couple of more inclusions in the list that might be unexpected. But they have earned some big revenue in the following year. Lets have a look at the list.

 20. Leicester City FC

Leicester City surprised the footballing world by winning their first ever Barclays Premier League. The underdogs had 1/5000 chances of winning the league. But football is an unexpected game. Their triumph earned them a revenue 5 times more than their previous one. The Foxes earned £128.7 this year.

19. Inter Milan

Once a top team in Europe, Inter Milan has been struggling for some seasons now. But they can still make large revenue. £134 million is a proof that they are still strong in the financial part of the game.

18. West Ham United

West Ham United are not any heavyweights or a club with glorious history. But playing in the premier league and finishing 7th is enough to earn clubs a good enough revenue. 16. AC Milan

The 7 times Champions league winner Italian club AC Milan features on the 16th spot. They earned a total of £160.6 million in 2016 which £13 million more than their previous year. Their new Chinese owners might help the sleeping giants to get back to the top again.

15. AS Roma

The Romans are in a great form, looking like title contenders this season. Currently on the second spot, only 1 point behind the league leaders Juventus. The inform Edin Dzeko and M. Salah could lead this club to glory. And they might make a revenue more than £163.2 million that they made in 2016.

Dortmund was out of the Champions league last season and was eliminated from Europa league in the semi-final stage by Liverpool FC. But they still managed this much revenue due to the fans.

10. Juventus FC

Juventus are expected to be making big revenues after winning 5 consecutive Serie A titles are playing Champions league final in 2015. They are currently leading the league table and came out of 2016 with a revenue of £255.1 million.

9. Liverpool FC

The club had the most expensive season ticket in the world.

6. Paris St-Germain

The French giant club PSG is owned by an Arab businessman who changed the fortune of the club by bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the French capital. By since the Swede left the club this summer, this has caused a drop in the ranking of PSG. They are now in 6th spot with a revenue of £389.6 million.

5. Manchester City

Another club in the list with Arab owners is Manchester City. Manchester City made £442.7 million revenue in 2016. The club was an unknown club in England. But the Arab invasion has made them a heavyweight in the English football. Moreover, they progressed to the UCL semi-final for the first time in their entire history but lost against Real Madrid.

4. Bayern Munich

With a revenue of £442.7 million, Bayern Munich is in the 4th spot of top 20 richest football clubs in the world. In 2016, Bayern Munich secured their 25th German league, Bundesliga, title. They also won DFB-Pokal and progressed to the Champions league semi-final. Moreover, Bayern Munich’s revenue saw an increment of 25% as compared to the past year.

3. Real Madrid

The 11 times Champions league winner Real Madrid topped the list for the 12 consecutive years. But they have fallen directly from the 1st spot to the 3rd. Although their revenue in 2016 increased as compared to the previous year. But this wasn’t enough for them to retain the position. They had £463.8 million revenue in 2016 after winning UEFA Champions league, UEFA Super Cup, and club World Cup.

2. FC Barcelona

The Catalans retained their 2nd position in the list of richest clubs. Barcelona won a domestic double and a Spanish Super Cup in 2016 and earned a revenue of £463.8 million. They finally undid their bitter rivals, Real Madrid.

1. Manchester United

Since Sir Alex Ferguson has left the club he managed for 27 years, Manchester United is struggling under different managers. They couldn’t manage a single league title after that. But the club never lacked behind in terms of finances and revenue. Their sponsorship deals, shirt sells, and the season ticket is enough to make them the richest club of 2016. Topping the list in 2016, Manchester United made £515.3 million revenue.
